Shaw dropped out of the Catholic League years ago due to decreased enrollment.

I know on paper they can drop, but the real answer to "why" is what Ian said the coach said. They have higher enrollment than holy cross and john curtis, but it is fine to follow the letter of the law. Found the new numbers here:

St. Charles is dropping because of a rule that apparently no coach in Louisiana knew the principals approved last year. That rule requires any school that plays up in classification to play in 5A. Because of this St. Charles and a bunch of other 2A and 3A schools that have been playing 4A ball are dropping down to their natural classes for the upcoming cycle. I expect the principals to approve a rule allowing teams to reverse the new rule at next month’s convention.
