Yes players who don't let a panic first half 2-point attempt that failed deflate their exuberance and confidence going into halftime, to the point where they don't score another point the whole game.

Going into half down by 1 after a well earned end of half touchdown, and I guarantee the would have scored again in the second half.

Need players who can stay confident in spite of panic moves by the coaching staff.

The College Football Playoff (CFP) and ESPN announced today that both parties have mutually agreed to extend the deadline for finalizing the future postseason format. The new deadline for completing the format and related structural decisions moves from December 1, 2025 to January 23, 2026.

The extension provides the CFP Management Committee with additional time to continue ongoing discussions regarding future playoff models, scheduling details, media considerations, and long-term strategy.

"We appreciate the continued partnership and collaboration with ESPN as we work through the important elements that will shape the future of the College Football Playoff," said Rich Clark, Executive Director of the CFP. "While no change to the current format is definite, this extension will allow the Management Committee additional time to evaluate the second year of the expanded playoff and ensure any potential modifications are carefully considered, fully vetted, and in the best interests of student-athletes, schools, and fans."

Very important that Tulane and JMU are competitive in their games and hopefully win one. I can guarantee you when they meet before Jan 26th, 2026 they will use it against the G5 teams in the CFP if they are not. It is almost like a setup.
This is why they need to win!! I say the only fair way to really do a CFP is with 16 teams and take the conference winners plus 6 at large teams!

    Never will happen!!

Isn’t written in there they have to take a school from the G6?

"Five conference winners". Everyone knows that the unspoken plan was the P4 and either the PAC2 or the ACC. The panic move by the PAC messed things up Then the ACC demise is happening and opened the door.

Someone explain to me how JM got in over N D, BYU, Vandy, to name a few
I know the NCAA and College football is a joke , but does not make sense ???
The five highest ranked conference champs are automatically given playoff births. BYU lost its champ game, so they were going to need to be high enough for one of the seven at large spots. Vandy didn't even make theirs, so same for them, and ND doesn't play in a conference due to their own choosing, so tough ____.

When VA lost the ACC champ game to a five loss Duke, the AAC and SBC moved ahead of the ACC for the Top 5 ranked conference champ slots.

What happened this season, with two G6 teams getting in, is something that would probably be a once a decade scenario in this format, so all the people crying that "something must be changed" are just lame. Get over it for one damn post-season. I'm sure things will be back to "normal" next season.

Self-marketing had zero to do with JMU and Tulane winning their champ game and VA losing to five-loss Duke.

I get it and JMU lost to Louisville who lost to Virginia who lost to "5-loss" Duke.

Please quit sniveling. At least you will get to see an undeserving Alabama in the playoffs. Why does anyone just run to the defense of a school who has basically thumbed their noses at the rest of college football for over 50 years because they think their "status" makes them more desirable. As far as I'm concerned, the SEC title game should have been Alabama's play in game. Georgia was in win, or lose. I would much rather see Vandy than Alabama, or Noter Dame. but JMU & Tulane actually did something those other schools did NOT do. they played their way into the tourny.

    No transitive property in football.

    +1

rules are rules even when the end result was not what the writer of the rules envisioned when they were written and adopted

They are never going to do the right thing.

What they will probably do is remove the conference champ element and just make it completely an invitational with 1 spot for the G6 representative.
