Greedy pigs had to leave a spot for the little guys to avoid government intervention. ACC has been sliding downward (remember FSU got jacked a few years ago out the BCS) and it finally caught up to the league. SBC took a spot intended for them by design.
Better enjoy it SBC, this won’t be happening again, 2 G7 teams in.
The private schools are NON Select

The College Football Playoff (CFP) and ESPN announced today that both parties have mutually agreed to extend the deadline for finalizing the future postseason format. The new deadline for completing the format and related structural decisions moves from December 1, 2025 to January 23, 2026.
The extension provides the CFP Management Committee with additional time to continue ongoing discussions regarding future playoff models, scheduling details, media considerations, and long-term strategy.
"We appreciate the continued partnership and collaboration with ESPN as we work through the important elements that will shape the future of the College Football Playoff," said Rich Clark, Executive Director of the CFP. "While no change to the current format is definite, this extension will allow the Management Committee additional time to evaluate the second year of the expanded playoff and ensure any potential modifications are carefully considered, fully vetted, and in the best interests of student-athletes, schools, and fans."
Very important that Tulane and JMU are competitive in their games and hopefully win one. I can guarantee you when they meet before Jan 26th, 2026 they will use it against the G5 teams in the CFP if they are not. It is almost like a setup.
We still dont k ow what would have happened if JMU was not in the top 25.....
I dont think the debate should be is n.dame better than miami or not. The question should be how were they ranked in one place on dec 2, then moved by dec 7 without them or miami having played. Are they saying the dec2 ranking was wrong??
