Coach Q had $850K for NIL this year. He said this team could have gotten a total of $1.5M individually at other schools. He said they wanted to play for him because of how he can develop players.
It will be interesting how much he will have in year 2 now that the honeymoon will be over.
Will Coach Q be the next Robert Lee? I hope not but I think the fan support will slowly diminish if we don't win some games.
I don't think so, I think you are seeing the improvement this year as the season goes on, this is going to be a struggle this year, but I think you will see consistent improvement as the year progresses. I think Coach Q will have the team he wants in a year or two if he can keep a core group to come back year over year.
Against UNCW, I thought we played our best game so far. We have started fouling less, which is very good. I'm not sure if that is the players getting better at pressure defense, or the officials letting them play. Still good.
We are a work in progress, and they get after it.
It's sad we are talking about just seeing improvement when we spend 850k on a roster. He's gonna have to answer a lot of questions when going try and get money from the same well this offseason. Telling guys this a ncaa tournament team that could make a run and we got a steal for 850k is not gonna help him this offseason. I'm more concerned with the staff he put together. No one has any experience.
I don't get the lack of experience of the staff comment. Coach Reyes was a head coach at Loyola while Coach Raines was a JC Head Coach. Coach Josh White worked with Johnny Jones at Texas Southern and is in the North Texas Hall of Fame. Now, you may argue that he should have been able to acquire more capable assistants but these guys do have experience. I bet if he had to do this again he would have brought in 2 point guards with experience. We are told that Bilal would have been Keller's back up. However he redshirted at Vandy and has no D1 experience. I do see progress in some areas as some have pointed out. They can't seem to finish a game however. Appears they tense up at crunch time. Acquiring the mental toughness to play loose but focused when the game is on the line is one of the toughest things for coaches to help players with.
