It took a lot of effort for ONE billboard, and on campus no less. Work is hard.

I’m sure that is also a major goal. However, over the past 5 years, from a financial perspective, the university stretched about as far as it possibly could (to the point of irresponsibility) to help athletics over the last 5 years. They simply can’t keep spending like that moving forward. There’s no more money to spend.

If we want to compete moving forward, the community and fan base will need to step up in a big way.

That’s because the university fails to understand what we are. They try to emulate P4’s and we are not that.

If they would be open and receptive to ideas we would have grown our base and generated more revenue.

Is 3% of the overall budget set aside or allocated for athletics or not?

Actually the state allows a 3% maximum contribution of the previous years operating budget to a university's athletic budget. For 2023 UL's overall budget was about $300M. If that is the case the university could only contribute $9M to athletics in 2024. Our Athletic budget in 2024 was around $46M. I have to believe that the university did allocate 3% to athletics. However, $9M isn't much of a contribution to the athletic budget. Basically, the state expects a university's athletic program to be self sufficient.

Finding and determining UL’s or any Louisiana university budget, is not for the faint of heart.

Does the $300mil budget include the $200mil+ research dollars? (that come from outside sources)
