Once his high school career at North DeSoto ended in the semifinals after the 2023 season, Lake Bates figured his playing days were over.

The safety knew he was pretty good at football.

After all, he was the District 1-4A Defensive Most Valuable Player and also earned Defensive MVP honors on the Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate All-Prep Team.
