Thread: MBB: Louisiana 56, UC Davis 77

If coach Q is "teaching" them to play aggressive defense (for the first time in their career) ... I would expect the clumsy fouls to occur.

And due to the physical exertion a severe drop in shooting ability.

But as soon as playing 'defense' becomes ingrained in their psychy and stamina I would expect fouls to go down and shooting percentage to go up.

IMO, this is your best post in a while. These guys are learning how to play hard, physical defense. They still have a way to go, but when it clicks, the fouls will go down. Hopefully, our defense will then create turnovers that can be turned into easy points.

I hope the clicking starts when they get home.

I’d hold off predicting until seeing what happens with Jackson State Friday.

We don't play defense "hard", we play lazy defense. The foul discrepancy will continue all year with our middle school level offense we run. We put no pressure on a defense.

I think we probably end up with 6-7 wins. We may not score 70 all year. With what has been invested not only in the team, but the whole staff, this is embarrassing and Maggard needs to be asking some tough questions this offseason on what the hell we are doing.

Point diff in 1st 7 games: minus 17; 1-6 record
2010: pt diff in first 7 games: minus 10.5, 0-7 record

    *only d1 opponents included
** if not for the 1 win, pt diff would be minus 21

There were a few more encouraging signs than in previous losses, but the end result was the same for the UL Ragin’ Cajuns in suffering a 77-56 road loss to Cal-Davis at the University Credit Union Center on Monday.

The Cajuns fell to 1-6 on the season and will return home to meet Jackson State at 7 p.m, Friday in the Cajundome.

We hired a coach who created a "great defense" at a semi-namebrand team and forgot to tell all the refs that, even though they've never heard of us, they should give us the same slack that Houston gets
This style of aggressive defense which has created excessive fouls leads to the scoring discrepancies that we are seeing. Additionally, we do not get to the free throw line and when we do its brick city. Does anyone question the poor offense schemes where we lack legitimate shooters and capable big men? Can the current roster compete at this level?

Maybe so, but remember, 1). He was asst coach and recruiter on a team that played for the national championship. 2) he was late coming in and got the best players that he could out of an already depleted portal 3). Teams usually play down in the early season to gain experience and pile up early wins. We are playing up. Not piling up wins, but getting more experience against tougher teams.
My opinion, we need to be patient right now, then see how we do in conference. And….hope we can hang on to those 3 “Studs” committed to us for next year.
