New-look defense stepped up in victory

In many ways, UL went into Thursday’s 34-30 road victory over Arkansas State blind.

After getting seven players suspended for the postgame fight against Texas State, the biggest impact was in the secondary without safeties Tyree Skipper, Kody Jackson and cornerback Courtline Flowers.

Avery demery looked pretty good out there for first real action. Not sure why he never played more before.

Lake bates looked lost out there numerous times but played to his best ability. It is a bit concerning about safety depth and talent if we have to start a redshirt freshman walk-on safety.

Neither was the kickoff return. Defense held when it really counted. And we won a close one on the road! Nice!!
