A dozen years have past since the public/private playoff split. Doesn't look like getting put back together anytime soon. No doubt the playoff brackets are watered down. Simplest thing to do is eliminate 5A, eliminate a playoff division. Maybe that keeps the 1-9 schools at home but maybe a few 5-5 teams still get in. If you check out the LHSAA October enrollment figures to determine next round of re-classification its clear enrollment is declining across the State. Beside too many playoff teams its justified to eliminate 5A.
Why not be in the same district and class for regular season and postseason. If there is 5A there should be 5 divisions, if not then only have up to 4A
LHSAA had a solution looking for a problem. They should've kept 1A through 5A, and added a 6A open classification for anybody that wanted to play up with the big boys (public or private) and if they really needed something else, a class B for very, very small schools or rebuilding programs. Instead, we have what we have now, with nonsense brackets, byes, teams with one or no wins being invited to the playoffs, etc.
1) No more select/non-select.
2) Go from 5 classifications to 4.
3) Here’s the kicker: institute promotion/relegation. Win your district and move up a classification. Finish last in your district and move down a classification.
4) Over time, schools will be grouped based upon level of competition.
4) This should be decided on the field by the players, not the principals, the boosters, the lawyers nor the politicians.
LHSAA proposed redistricting 26-28.

What is crazy is Bunkie being in select 3
Ironically, public magnet schools were pulled into the select brackets to help fill out their brackets.
