Correct. I'm not sure universities are doing it yet, or even legal to do so, but offshoring is very prevalent these days and can really reduce costs.
Small example of full integration could be on the marketing/apparel side of things. You have 1 group who negotiates and works on all apparel for the UL system instead of each university doing the same. More buying power and if you put a university logo on 150 items you are simply making sure each school has their logo/colors on the same 150 items and you're done with it. Perhaps you do the same with negotiating contracts with Adidas, UA and Nike for uniforms. e
I've lived thru this multiple times and it's not fun if you have been with an entity for a long period of time because you have connections to coworkers and it becomes emotional. You need leadership who has no ties to anyone and can make decisions without worrying about the end result for a friend/colleague. It's how the corporate and private equity world works on a daily basis.
