Thread: “transforming the UL System into a full vertically integrated university system”

  1. #1

Alumni “transforming the UL System into a full vertically integrated university system”

Item G on the ULS Board Agenda is:

“ Resolution authorizing the System President and staff to conduct preliminary due diligence on the feasibility, cost, and benefits of transforming the University of Louisiana System into a full vertically integrated university system.”

    https://public.onboardmeetings.com/M...87yOes5V19QwkA

What does this mean and how is it likely to screw UL?

Got some CUSA v La Tech on the agenda also.

    F. Discussion and Consideration of Pending Litigation Conference-USA vs BOS/LTU (Executive Session pursuant to Louisiana R.S. 42:17 may be required.)

Doc Fun, you out there? Any idea what this means?

    Seems to be about control.

…gain more control over its operations, potentially increasing efficiency, reducing costs, improving quality, and mitigating risks from external suppliers. For example, a coffee company that owns coffee plantations (upstream, or backward integration) and retail cafes (downstream, or forward integration) is vertically integrated.

    UL - Lake Charles
    UL - Lafayette
    UL - Central Louisiana
    UL - Monroe
    UL - Thibodeaux

....I'm assuming and I hope. Money has become tight and population has decreased. Put egos aside and consolidate to share resources.

Are we the only university system that the member schools compete against each other and dont support each other? Could that ever be fixed? When i hear/read vertical i think of a ladder

This is no different than when a large company buys many others and fully integrates them. Usually back office services, accounting, etc... would all be consolidated and you would see staff layoffs. Theory is that if you have large volumes of workload in a particular area, you have a dept for that and they will be able to do more workload per person as they will be highly specialized in that domain.

True, and in those scenarios you get a home office and or a "flagship"

Create a census designated place around campus, ASAP.... use postal service to declare campus in Louisiana, Louisiana
