Sounds about what I have seen in 3 games. They have to get better because they can't get much worse. How is this different from Marlin's teams?
    Defense isn't "iffy"

It wore down Tulane, evidenced by their drop in free throw shooting percentage.

They were always going to drop some on that percentage. Impossible to stay at the clip they were at.

    True.

Defense also held them 16 points below their average.

We will see how good that was as their sample size gets larger.

I believe he is or at least to a degree. Sampson's "system" is designed to let players attack matchup advantages. A lot of it is just screening and reading what the defenders do or getting a quicker guard on a big and beating them off the dribble or kicking to outside shooters. He just has better athletes doing it as well as better shooters.

One of our premier former point guards had a lot of nice things to say about team. He bemoaned FTs and expressed concern about inside game. Loss of our starting Pt guard was his main disappointment. He likes him. I enjoy getting his take on guard play.
We’ll see on FTs. That really concerned me. Stats from this game show better balance. Matched Tulane essentially in all areas except FTs made %.

I think there is a lot of over exaggeration around here. With all of the shortcomings mentioned here, we had a chance to win this game playing poorly in some areas. We beat these guys up, especially in the second half and we made them earn every point. In the previous two games, they had shot 52% and 45% from 3pt and we held them to 21%!

We couldn't rebound with anyone last year and we outrebounded a decent team including 12 Offensive rebounds. I'm not sure we came anywhere close to that last year.

We were down 2 players with one being a starter. I'm not sure what was up with Olvera's minutes as he was outplayed in the first half by Mejia and was 4th in minutes played overall. I'm firmly on the side that you are going to see progressive improvement. I think Lewis can be a bigtime player for us and he really took a step last night and I think he'll continue to get better as the season goes on. It would be nice to get one big who we can feed the ball to in the block at times but I think you'll see them up top more setting screens and rolling or stepping out for shots.

Same here. I expected with a decent in state team coming in and one with a coach notorious around here more would have showed up. It was a fun game though. I noticed the students had a good turnout but were more behaved than Friday..lol. I wonder if they got a talking to. Shoot FT's better and make a couple of stops and we win that game.
