A State has similar issues like us, and may be even worse issues for attendance. Their pro team is basically Arkansas Razorbacks. That state really doesn't support anyone else.
I think Des can use the suspensions on defense to motivate his guys to come out and win this one. If we win this one we can surely beat ULM who is depleted with injuries as well, going out on a positive note and get into a bowl game. If Des wins said bowl game, I will get off his ass for a while as it would be a remarkable turn around and actually a winning 7-6 season. Not what we expect as we expect conference championships and 10 win seasons here, but hey its the card we are dealt this year with all that has occurred.
He must win a damn bowl game though! He can't go 0-4 as a Head coach. Yes yes the Marshall NOLA bowl with Napier's staff and team don't count.
Marlin had no excuse not to build a consistent roster/culture...NIL and portal were only a thing for like 3 years of his tenure.
Des has to navigate key players leavin each year to portal/NIL opportunities. Not giving him a pass, but its a different ballgame now compared to bustle/Marlin era.
Marlin lost an entire starting 5 to NIL. Two of which played in the final 4.
Des is a great recruiter, great person and a mediocre coach.

That’s enough of a track record to show who he is as a coach. The floor for this program is 8 wins.
Hudspeth and Napier have proven that in our recent history.
I get what you are saying...im not saying Marlin never lost players...but for the bulk of his tenure at UL players transferring out were not as prevalent.
Also im curious during Napiers tenure, how many of our core guys do we retain if the Transfer portal with instant eligibilty existed? I would imagine we wouldve lost a good chunk of guys after the 2019 season, but thats just my guess.
And i 100% agree...the floor Is 8 wins for our program anything less is a failed season, barring certain circumstances.
Look at Ahmad Hardy. I was watching a highlight reel someone made of him at ULM and the audio at one point was of the Louisiana-Monroe commentators in the booth and the color analyst saying "It's a new day in the Bayou!". Honestly, I wish he was correct and ULM knew they had landed some genuis pick. Southern Miss, Ole' Miss and Miss. State all give him no consideration in recruiting him. How did they miss him, I have no clue. Or us for that matter (I know we can't locate every bad ass RB in the South, no matter how close they are). Anyhow, the "new day on the bayou" is over as quick as it was initiated for ULM. Even if we had landed Ahmad, same thing, he's going SEC Period. Vis a vis Montrell Williams (4) from UPT Nola, nope, Billy left and of course Montrell too. Or E. Bailey who of course went Big XII with the Frogs. And of course, our late WR, no longer with us who decided to join WR group at LSU, R.I.P.
This is the new paridigm. Have to figure it out. There is another interesting side to this situation as well though - top recruits dropping out of P4 play. On one hand we have the inevitable - P4 big money program wants our recruit, gone. On the other hand is that 4 star recruit who passed on a G5 offer, went P4 but now for whatever reason feels he made the wrong move, can hit up that offer from Louisiana. With portal, at the drop of a hat they can change their college football career path. Just as we saw two Louisiana HS super stars who left their P4 diggs, and returned to Acadiana to play College ball in Cajun Country.
If Des gets to best case scenario 7 wins this year with winning 2 and a bowl game that is 29 wins total divided by 4 years equals only an average of 7.25 wins per year. To me that is underperforming. Agree. Floor should be 8 a year. At least win your damn bowl games which seems to be an issue for Des coached teams.
