JMU was in the same position as UL when its coach and half the team went to Indiana vs. Napier, et al to Florida. 2 years later, they are Eastern Conference SBC champs and Top 25 and may get a CFP bid while UL is struggling to get to .500 ball and a middle of the pack Western Division SBC team.
Remember in 2021 when UL won the SBC and were 12-1 but Cincy won the American and got into the CFP so they changed the rule and said another G5 couldn’t get into a NY6 regular bowl because G5 Cincy then (highest ranked G5) got into the playoffs. So yes we were the 1st ones out. Sucks we didn’t get that NY6 bowl that year cause of their stupid rule.
I used to think those that say there are some that dont care about R1 status were just joking.... but now i see by your post and post #77 that such a lack of intellectual curiosity does exist, thanks for personifying that realization. Not sure what the solution to the lack of appreciation regarding R1 status is, but at least now i see the first step that that viewpoint is real
Great point.... i didnt realize they changed the rule. But i have posted this before and was called tinfoil.
If sec champ made playoff, th e sugar bowl got to replace sec auto bid with another sec team. If big10 champ made playoff rose bowl got to replace that auto bid. So it followed why shoukd ny6 g5 slot be replaced with another g5 autobid if that slot was in playoff.
Want to see something really interesting:
Make a list of all 13 win teams that did not go to playoff or ny6.
Drops. And yep, I know its hard to believe.
This JMU rise to stardom is easier to believe. (And its damn near impossible what they've done.) Just think if they'd been allowed to play in Bowls following their first two FBS seasons, they'd be even more well known. 25,000 peeps showed up for their College Gameday.
Sidenote: If our new Pres wants to become a Rockstar and see more money flow into the Univ of Louisiana than ever before, he should examine the JMU phenom. We already have the academic side, now we need College Gameday. This is what those p.o.s.(s) at State fear the most.
