I have no illusions about what this team will likely look like this year. I don't think we're going to see anything "pretty" on offense. If you're familiar with Houston basketball, they've thrived under Sampson playing stifling defense and sometimes ugly offensive basketball. They'll win in the 40's or 50's if that's what it takes and its taken that before. We will not be as good defensively as UH but we'll play a similar brand of ball which I'm fine with. I was tired of being outmanned and outrebounded by double digits while jacking up 35 three pointers under Marlin. But if people here think that our offense is going to be a thing of beauty, you'll likely be wrong.

Good post here by Zephyr. Over half of Cajun practices generally involve defensive drills. We may win a few games by a score of 55 to 51. I was told Coach White thought our guys settled for too many threes and wished we had been more patient at UNT. He also was frustrated with 19 turnovers. Most of those were in the first half and we forced UNT into 18 turnovers. That was likely not a major factor. Having a terrible shooting night was the main issue

You are spot on. Under Kelvin it is crazy how many games we have won shooting under 35 percent from the field. This is done by getting an average of 12 or so more possessions than the opponent by limiting turnovers and grabbing offensive rebounds. I will mangle the quote but basketball teams have commas after results from November and December. The periods come after February and march game. April if you are spoiled. Typically most of the before Christmas practices concentrate on defense as they believe effort on defense will produce every game while offense is more reliant on shooting which comes and goes. I am biased but I believe y’all will be thrilled with the progress the team makes as the season progresses. It is so fun to watch as a fan.

At least not until they can make 40% of them.

Preseason is for getting players to work together. Shooting will always be the first thing to suffer in the preseason especially with so many new faces. The UNT outing does not phase my excitement one bit.

I have long thought that focusing on defense (sheer exertion) causes shooting to suffer a bit till it becomes second nature.

The Houston games I've seen on TV show a lot of movement and a great passing offense to find an open shot whether it is a 3 pointer or 2 pointer. I only hope we can play offense that effectively. Defense is lock down, so let's hope we are similar as well.
