The university is being faced with having to perform layoffs. I doubt an interim president is going to want the optics of academic layoffs while buying out CMD and spending market rate for a replacement. Even if private money is floated to do so.

If you're looking for the difference as to why we won't be competitive, your statement pretty much sums it up.. (and i completely agree with you)

Watch when LSU spends $50 million (donor or otherwise) to get rid of Bryan Kelly, and most of Louisiana will rejoice. $50+ million to replace a coach because he lost a few games. $50 million that could be spent on God knows what, and they're going to spend it to get rid of the guy early because LSU didn't go undefeated. LSU, Penn St, etc don't have to even consider optics

The fact Penn State even still fields a football team and everyone there pretends that one of their coaches wasn’t raping kids tells you all about how they view optics.

This is reasonable except the bowl win part. I’d rather go 10-3, play a P4 tight and lose than 7-5, NO bowl against another G5 and win.

And LSU is who we'll always be competing with for fans here in south Louisiana. A school with not only unlimited financial resources, but unlimited statewide support as well.

I doubt the LSU athletic department/university would pay for the buyout. It will all come from boosters, which is appropriate, and which they have. Do we still have boosters who could pay a buyout and fund a higher HC salary? Given the turmoil with the UL presidency and the state of university finances across the state, I doubt anything will happen this year anyway.

I think we had our highest average attendance here since 2015 so far this year. People are coming, but that will drop off these last two games as the play on the field and losses will kill it. The play on the field besides one quarter vs. Marshall has been terrible all year long. It is hard to watch to be honest. We failed to capture those fans. We will be back to about 15K soon which is why it will be hard to retain Coach Des going forward. The crowd will speak for it self. Football drives the bus. If we are not good at football the rest of our whole athletic dept will suffer.

And how many of those fans attending were here for the new stadium's initial season? I feel like that makes up a significant reason why you've seen a slight bump this year but it doesn't mean you'll see that bump continue.

Yes. He needs to get a dedicated OC/playcaller and the team needs to stay relatively healthy, and he can definitely win 10 games.

Especially with the current product on the field. Had a chance to grab some extra returning fans vs Rice for the stadium opener and vs USM for homecoming. ____ the bed both times, scoring a grand total of 22 points combined.
