They had the money to offer Billy $3 million to stay just a few years ago. That's not school funds BTW, that's private funds. However, if you go on page 5 and look at one of my last posts, I stated that we can't and won't fire Des but we should. This program is going down and we're basically saying the coach can hold us hostage?
No we are basically saying if we had enough money to buy him out etc we could have spent it on NIL. I’m dubious as to if we could have really produced 3 million, but even if so just because it was there 4 years ago doesn’t mean it’s still there.
I think it’s best for both coach and school to start again, but I seriously doubt our broke asses can do it in the middle of an oilfield down cycle.
Guys, this is a moot point.
Just to be perfectly clear, with our current financial situation, we will not make any decision that increases our budget. The new CFO was brought in by the UL System Board to balance the budget and that’s what he is doing. Spending on campus is at a virtual standstill. More layoffs are coming soon. This will be the status quo for at least the next 2 years. The thought that this CFO would approve a buyout right now is laughable.
There will be no buyout unless boosters are willing to pay 100% of the money for it AND the increased funding needed to hire the next coach and his staff.
Rebel, the RPCA would prefer to scream play calling from the top of their lungs than admit the reality of what has been posted by myself, you and BWK ever since the decision was made by Louisiana to hire Des. Besides, when Napier left, I believe the money available to retain him was more like $2mm and it was only there for one year . . . And never forget, hind sight is 20;20, we now have already seen what Napier can do with all the money in the world but no Levi Lewis - folks, probably the least responsible factor for Louisiana finding itself where it is today in football is the fact that Des is our head coach - you heard it here first and you heard it here last . ..
