Agreed. Wasn't trying to compare him to Allen in terms of success. Just that it was the same type of hire from within.

My opinion, I believe he is referring to the process, not necessarily exact records. The jury is still out on Des, and it's not looking real good over 4 seasons.

That's right. 400k base with a ton of extras built in that Billy was indeed hitting.

Given our budget issues now, it may have been for the best. Who knows. Billy may have been able to continue what he was doing.

On the other hand, Des hosted a Championship 3 years later, so there's that. We almost did it without paying out the nose. But did it at the expense of 2 losing seasons in between.

The big question is would have Billy been able to continue his ways if he would have stayed and with NIL and the transfer portal being implemented that year? Billy has way more resources at Florida than Mike has here at UL! ($$$$) Billy's current record does not reflect what Florida has paid for. Just ask any Gator fan and or alumni member!

When you win consistently at a high level fans are willing to donate money. A donor was willing to put up the money for Billy’s contract before he accepted the Florida job, you don’t think that same donor would have been willing to donate to NIL if Billy was still the coach?

No, but Billy would have lost players to teams that would be willing to pay them to leave. And UL couldn't counter because there wasn't money to keep them.
