Here’s my full local guide to Lafayette:
Food in Downtown Lafayette:
-Spoonbill (Seafood and Sandwiches. Everything there is insanely good. Great space too.)
-Pop’s poboys (Great sandwiches. My favs are the Delcambre Danny-a lemon shrimp poboy, and the Hot Hot-one of the best spicy chicken sandwiches you’ll ever eat.)
-Vestal (one of our fancy restaurants. The charbroiled oysters there are on another level)
-The Flats (some of the best burgers in the city. Great vibe inside too.)
-Rêve is pretty much our gold standard when it comes to coffee.
Food Outside of Downtown:
-Laura II’s is the epitome of Creole soul food.
-Old Tyme Poboys has great poboys and is THE UL restaurant.
-Scratch Farm Kitchen also has some the best burgers/food you’ll have in any city you’ll ever visit.
-Johnson’s is a pretty good smoke meats spot BUT
-The Acadian Superette is my favorite. (The smoked chicken club is insane).
-Don’s Seafood if want to try everything Cajun at once.
Drink:
-The Yardgoat is cool. Can get pretty crowded.
-The Greenroom is like everybody’s dive bar.
-Wild Child Wines if you need some cool artsy vibes
Sights:
-On Saturday mornings Moncus Park (our Central Park) has a big farmers market with Cajun music and really good vendors/food.
-Cypress Lake is a literal swamp on UL’s campus
-St. John’s Cathedral is one of Lafayette’s most famous buildings.
Music:
-Blue Moon Saloon is an amazing venue/hostel. One of a kind vibe and always has great acts.
-Hideaway on Lee gets great local musicians.
Don’t go to Baton Rouge. I’m from there. Don’t do it.
New Orleans is like no other place in the world. But it’s a lot to tackle with limited time. If you want to maximize your experience there, just go to the French quarter and walk around. That’ll keep you busy for long enough. If you get bored with that, just walk down Magazine street.
Hope this helps and hope yall have great time in the city and a terrible time watching your team![]()
