Thread: 1st Quarter of Football Season

UL Football 1st Quarter of Football Season

Alright we are 1-2, lots of football left to play. We can still compete for the SBC - West and find ourselves in a good position.

    Questions
    1. Do we have a QB talent problem or offensive line issue?

    2. Is there an overall talent issue considering the last five games (Marshall, TCU, Rice, McNeese, Mizzou)
    - We got the doors blown off by P4s, can't beat our peers in G5, and got an ugly win versus an FCS rival.

    3. Does CMD adjust his transfer portal philosophy or is he limited due to administration.

Next week we're facing an 0-3 Eastern Michigan team. We'll learn a lot about our team. Probably the most pivotal game of the season.

Its going to be a looooooooong season. We already know, We're in for a slugfest next week and beyond that in conference will be tough. 6 wins would need us to win atleast 75% of our 50/50 games, and thats a high bar with this team. We are not good. We arent good on defense, we cant throw, we have a decent run game but teams can just tee on it...its not a good season, this is a rebuild season sadly....

    EL OH EL.

We have less than 200 yard passing TOTAL over the first quarter of the season. We couldn’t even crack 90 vs McNeese.

There’s not a lot of good to say.

Our running backs are still good. They will help win a game or 2 just because they are good.

If our QBs can throw for 150, we may win. That’s a tall order.

Need the quarterback play to get better quickly or the offense will continue to be limited to the run game.

We suck. It's going to be a long season. This team is loaded with seniors. I'm really worried about down the road as Mike hasn't really proven himself on the recruiting trail and he's going to have to completely rebuild this program next year.

The failure of the administration to hire properly when Billy Napier left for Florida is/has/will be the problem. Those in charge should have known that Napier was going to leave. In fact, had it not been for a pandemic, he would have left earlier.

The administration should have known that an attractive offer, one that would provide Billy and his family generational wealth would be coming Napier's way, and that he would take it. Only the delusional would not have prepared for this eventuality.

And so this administration did what it always does, falling back on what it has always done. It USL'd the hire. It pressed the easy button. Or the panic button. Whatever button, it was the wrong button.

I'm not saying Mike Desormeaux is a bad coach. I'm saying he was a bad hire. He simply is not getting the job done. Not that they are not paying him a handsome salary. $775k is good money. It is good enough to expect better.

Oh sure, we wanted some continuity. Pretty clear we didn't get very much of that. We played well last year against mediocre teams. When the rubber met the road, we were not ready as a team, and as a coaching staff.

This should be the end of everything. But history teaches us everything we need to know. We bought half a stadium. We bought a coach that's not worth half his salary. We're not half as good as we were when Napier was here.

Those who played football here, those who paid to watch them play, those who are currently paying to sponsor our football program, and the kids who are sweating their sss off at practice deserve better than this half sss mess we are looking at this year.

Please follow up with your excuses as to why it is the way it is.
