The failure of the administration to hire properly when Billy Napier left for Florida is/has/will be the problem. Those in charge should have known that Napier was going to leave. In fact, had it not been for a pandemic, he would have left earlier.
The administration should have known that an attractive offer, one that would provide Billy and his family generational wealth would be coming Napier's way, and that he would take it. Only the delusional would not have prepared for this eventuality.
And so this administration did what it always does, falling back on what it has always done. It USL'd the hire. It pressed the easy button. Or the panic button. Whatever button, it was the wrong button.
I'm not saying Mike Desormeaux is a bad coach. I'm saying he was a bad hire. He simply is not getting the job done. Not that they are not paying him a handsome salary. $775k is good money. It is good enough to expect better.
Oh sure, we wanted some continuity. Pretty clear we didn't get very much of that. We played well last year against mediocre teams. When the rubber met the road, we were not ready as a team, and as a coaching staff.
This should be the end of everything. But history teaches us everything we need to know. We bought half a stadium. We bought a coach that's not worth half his salary. We're not half as good as we were when Napier was here.
Those who played football here, those who paid to watch them play, those who are currently paying to sponsor our football program, and the kids who are sweating their sss off at practice deserve better than this half sss mess we are looking at this year.
Please follow up with your excuses as to why it is the way it is.
