  3. Hall of Fame Jonathan Lucroy To Be Inducted Into Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame

Record-setting catcher and two-time MLB All-Star part of 2026 class to be inducted in June 2026

After leaving his mark as one of the most accomplished players in Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball history and enjoying a standout career in Major League Baseball, Jonathan Lucroy has earned the game's highest honor in the state.

The former UL catcher and two-time MLB All-Star has been named to the 2026 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, the organization announced Wednesday. Lucroy is one of eight members selected from the competitors' ballot for enshrinement next summer.

Joining Lucroy in the star-studded class are Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Sylvia Fowles, NFL standouts Joe Horn, Todd McClure and Pat Williams, and legendary basketball coaches John Brady, Mike McConathy and Dewain Strother. The group will officially enter the Hall of Fame during ceremonies set for June 25-27, 2026, in Natchitoches. Ticket information for the three-day, seven-event celebration is available at LaSportsHall.com.

In addition, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame will present its Louisiana Sports Ambassador Award to former LSU star Warren Morris, while three contributors will be honored later this year with the Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award and the Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism, presented by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Lucroy becomes the second former Ragin' Cajuns player to be inducted, joining 1992 honoree Ron Guidry. He also enters alongside his former coach, the late Tony Robichaux, who was enshrined in 2022.

Before a 12-year career in the majors, Lucroy built a decorated resume at UL from 2005-07. A two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection, he set school career records for RBI (184), doubles (54) and total bases (414) while hitting 35 home runs. He posted a .356 batting average and .612 slugging percentage and earned Freshman All-America honors in 2005 after hitting .379 with five homers and 48 RBI.

Lucroy helped lead Louisiana to a pair of Sun Belt titles and a run to the 2007 NCAA Regional final before being selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the third round of the 2007 MLB Draft. He reached the majors in just two seasons, becoming Milwaukee's starting catcher in 2010.

Over six seasons with the Brewers, Lucroy became one of the game's elite backstops. In 2014, he hit .301 with 69 RBI and a league-best 53 doubles – setting a Major League record for doubles by a catcher, surpassing Hall of Famer Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez. Lucroy started behind the plate in the All-Star Game that summer and finished fourth in the National League MVP voting. He earned his second All-Star selection in 2016 after hitting .299 with 13 homers and 56 RBI.

Recognized as one of the best defensive catchers of his era, Lucroy later helped the Texas Rangers capture the 2017 American League West crown before leading all AL catchers in fewest errors (10) and runners caught stealing (31) as Oakland's starter in 2018. He played for nine different MLB clubs before retiring in 2021 with a .274 career average, 108 homers and 548 RBI in 1,210 games.

Internationally, Lucroy represented the United States in the 2013 and 2017 World Baseball Classics, winning gold in 2017.
