Thread: Ragin' Cajuns offense still a work in progress

  1. UL Football Ragin' Cajuns offense still a work in progress

As UL's football team completed spring drills a few weeks ago, head coach Rickey Bustle spoke with optimism about what he expects to be a strong defensive unit looking ahead to next season.

Bustle had a tougher time being as optimistic about his offense, which struggled to establish any consistency in the spring amid a combination of nagging injuries and new faces at key positions.

I think our offense will get a significant kick in the pants when the two additional running backs arrive in the fall.

Also... CajunT... do you forsee Gauthier getting an opportunity as the Mason-led offense continues to struglle a bit?

Lastly, I think Marlin Miller will have a break-out year.

Echo that on Miller. He looks like he's gaining some weight and he will be a significant playmaker next year assuming he stays healthy. Miller seems to be a good character guy also so he may provide some nice leadership.

My short answer is yes, Gauthier will get his opportunity this season if Masson struggles.

The offense's improvement will hinge upon production of the running game, and keeping Green and Miller healthy this season.

Just wondering. Why not play Green (only 225 lbs.) at wide receiver rather than TE and play the other projected tight end (253 lbs.) at TE to help with blocking for an improved running game and passing game?

You will see some of this. Ladarius Green is often used in the SE position, especially on passing downs. However, the benefit of having him on the interior line is getting good matchups on LB's and safeties. When he's split out, defenses have time to know exactly who they will put on him and can jam him with a DB.
