The Keg parking lot on the corner of McKinley and Gen Mouton used to have the Bulldog Inn(Precursor to the Bulldog) now on the corner of Gen Mouton and GEN Gardiner. I remember the Bulldog inn had Burgers and a decent Po BOY. They also had a photo on the wall of Nakita Kruschev framed with a toilet seat. At one time there was a guy that sold burgers out of a food truck that frequented the area.
Mardi Gras parades used to go down Jefferson to Pinhook. It got pretty wild around there. There were one or two people that got shot and maybe killed one year. That was one of the reasons they changed the route of the parade to Johnston Street. It spread out the crowd and made it easier to control. The area is returning to residential now. Not much commercial viability there now.
The red building at the corner of Mckinley and Gen Mouton used to be Benoits neighborhood grocery store until it turned into a bar (it's vacant now). I used to walk there as a kid to buy candy. The buildings at the corner of Lamar and Gen Mouton were Comeauxs grocery (really good Boudin) and Listi's paint store(it was turned into a bar after Carlo Listi was sheriff) Both are empty now.
The photo is of a recently built an 8 unit apartment complex at Gen Mouton and Lamar.
