I wanted to win in the worst way last night. But then I was thinking, we should have started out playing a Northwestern, Nicholls, Grambling etc; since we traded out our quarter backs, best running back, best receivers, and we’ve had very little time to gel. The biggest changes come between game 1 and game 2. We should look a lot better against McNeese. I think we will be in good shape by conference time.

Why dont we switch to a different system, option, veer, etc, to catch our opponents off guard.
Always seems to happen to us., no film=no prep???

I don’t think they caught us off guard. They scored 14 points, 7 of which was on a long pass the receiver bailed out the qb on. We handled their running game well enough. This loss is 100% on the offense.

OLOL occupancy v Rice - 72.9% of stadium.

With no sororities, Labor Day weekend and LSU/Clemson playing at the same time.

Defense did a good job considering no help from offense.

The offensive struggles since the CCG last year are not a surprise given the QB situation since then. But, we still should have been able to power out a win last night.

The OL needs to grow a set. I don’t if it’s coaching or personnel, but something needs to change quickly there.

…and dropped balls has to stop as well.

This non expert opinion … OL has great size but needs to assert themselves more; as in to play ____ed off and with a chip on their shoulders.

This game reminded me of the southern miss game a couple of years ago. Playing a physically inferior team but offense too predictable and lackluster. I see very little misdirection and baiting of defensive players to the wrong positions. I don’t recall any short crossing routes that are hard to defend and good for quarterback confidence. A poster on the rice board says he doesn’t expect to win another game this season. Perry in the open field is so dangerous why not try him on a wheel route?

O-line was pushed backwards a lot. A new backup QB needs to be found. Catching was horrendous. Play calling was bad as usual.

Positive: Kicker is solid!
Heard from brother in law that the stadium was nice. Production value for the game was bad.

……I thought that Rice had as creative an offense as I have seen….Veer, Zone read, power sweep……think many college and HS staffs will visit Rice to learn the offense…..no wonder this coach has had as successful a career as his record shows!

I'm watching our game again and if you wanna see how bad Shelton was last night, watch the replay. WH persisted again and again and again targeting him. It got so bad that Samson in the 4th qtr. visibly couldn't believe his self!
