Why not agree? It is the perfect mascot for UL. We have live gators on campus at the Swamp, our football stadium is called The Swamp, and the caricature and costume are great. Kids and all fans would love it. To me, the only question is the color of the gator, white, red or green.
And, it doesn't matter that Florida also has a gator mascot and their stadium is also called The Swamp. Doesn't seem to matter to Clemson and LSU that are both Tigers and both stadiums are called Death Valley.
So, obviously, I am all for the gator mascot. What are the objections to it and what alternative mascot would you recommend?
Hard to beat neutral.

Why bring back the Southwestern Louisiana Bulldog and have the same mascot as LA Tech? The gator is our true on-campus tradition. If its the color that is problematic, we can agree on something other than white.
Actually, we could have a red gator and a white gator, a male and a female called Louis and Ana, capturing the school name, school colors, and on-campus tradition.
