It’s the Louisiana way. Remember, gambling was suppose to be used for higher ed. It was “suggested” it would supplement the budget, but alas, bait and switch. And you’re correct, it would happen here.

Makes me dread what’s coming since T-Joe “retired”.

Some here know I follow I-49 construction progress. The 90/Verot interchange was suppose to let for bid this past spring per DOTD interview in 2024. Can’t find a blip about it on DOTD site. According to the project manager, it’s ready to go as of the big public hearing last year. Obviously, the state is in a pinch.

But hey, it’s hurricane season, the savior of Louisiana’s budget.

SBC board, which is usually tough to follow, does have a related thread. And a logical theory of what may happen.

You really think this state is run by Red or Blue politicians? They are one and the same.

Louisiana is 26th in domestic GDP, with true GDP growth of a little over 3%. Yet we can’t figure out how to fund universities because the biggest crooks in the state are elected officials.

Spare me the red vs blue BS. The fact is if the state were truly audited and the fraud waste and abuse were exposed and immediately stopped we wouldn’t have this problem.
I’m not red vs blue-ing anything here. It’s just a simple cause and effect.

    >The people in charge chose to cut taxes for rich people

    >this created a huge budget shortfall

    >because of the way the state constitution is written universities have to bear a huge % of that shortfall.

The state is audited every year. Every dollar of spending in this state is public record. Please let me know when anyone finds all this waste, fraud, and abuse.

    This crock of ____ again?

Look, I think Huey P. Landry is mostly a fraud, but can we stop with this "we can't fund higher ed because 'tax cuts for rich people'" bull____?

The 2023-2024 Operating Budget was $42.1 Billion. The 2024-2025 Operating Budget is $47.2 Billion, both numbers admittedly according to Google AI. I used to read the budgets themselves, but got lazy.

There's plenty of money. Tax cuts "for rich people" isn't the problem.

You, sir, need to stop being selfish and fork over more of your earned income to Baton Rouge. Can't you once think of the children?

12 pct increase seems like a big increase

Interesting that more than half of the states have higher than 3pct gdp yet country barely has 3 pct

And it was intentionally written that way...higher ed and healthcare must take the hits. That way if you aren't in favor of higher taxes, you hate the children and old people.

Just like it was intentional to have a damn near impossible threshold of signatures to reach to recall a politician in Louisiana.

Can we tax Lawsuit settlements to increase the State's Budget? From my understanding they are tax free, am I wrong?
