I only caught the tail-end of Dr. Authement's presidency as a student, but is Dr. Savoie the best and most impactful president our university has ever had? Am I suffering from recency bias? I know Dr. A kind of filled the coffers so that Dr. S could ignite this long-sustained period of growth, but what a guy.
Edit: Looks like he's stepping down due to university financial issues from the audit (that caused Finance VP to resign).
I like what T-Joe said. Sign of a great leader to know when it’s time to hand over the baton.
“Higher education has changed immensely in the past two decades. The expectations on colleges and universities are as great as they have ever been and meeting those responsibilities to our community today – and to generations that follow – requires new ideas and fresh approaches. I owe it to this institution that has given me so much, personally and professionally, to make way for the future.”
Undoubtedly left the university better than when he took it over. I also graduated at the end of the Authement era and just looking at the campus and athletic facilities nowadays is a stark change from then, not to mention the R1 designation and other notable achievements

Interesting comments on audit. Wonder if our ancient methods put in by Doc A and overseen by J Luke caused so much of the delay in payments, etc. Micromanagement may need to increase with taxpayer money but it takes forever to get through the morass of signatures for $ by this University. Maybe it’s just making sure money is being spent wisely. But not if it’s causing a mess. No clue what is causing our audit failures but really needs to be fixed. Needs to be “Agile.”
I only met President Savoie twice.
2nd week on the job 2008. He was picking up trash on campus at 5am
2nd to last week on the job 2025.
I was waiting to get in to watch Superman.
