I’ve listened so far to roughly the first half of the RR podcast with Dr. Maggard, and he explained that while he’s not completely against 2 for 1’s, generally you take ALOT less money in those situations for the payout games. He said he would still listen to proposals, but the $$ must make sense to him.

I don’t know enough about college athletic finances to say his strategy is correct or not, but that’s how he views it.

I cannot believe we are still asking this question.

To be fair the oregon state and washington state games were signed when they were a p5 and houston rice was before houston moved to big 12 , that rivalry game is ending after this year. Point is still noted.

Our finances don't allow it at this time. Only way to host a P4 school these days is to agree to a 2 for 1 deal. We generally get 1.3 MM$ for a one time payday game. We would only get about 500 M$ for a 2 for 1 deal. The home game against the P4 would not nearly make up the 800 grand difference. Also, we could end up with only 5 home games one year which would lower the amount you could charge for your season tickets and walk up tickets as well. Schools that are doing this are in better financial situations than we are. Look at CajunT's recent post in other threads and you will get an idea of how poor our athletic financial situation is at this time. Consider the facilities which are still needed and the revenue sharing which will now go to our athletes when evaluating the finances. I am sure if someone went to Dr. Maggard and said I want to donate 1 million dollars to have a P4 come to Cajun Field he would jump on it quickly. In reality that is what it will cost us to have this happen at this stage.

I think you are underestimating that number. 1.5X that and you might get a 1-1 deal with a lower level P5 who is going to low ball you on the return visit.

Home-n-Home games are free both ways.

    3 for 1

    2 money
    1 free

After listening to his position, I came away thinking it was at least reasonable. I still disagree that 2-for-1’s are bad for business. Getting a big brand in here once every 3-4 years would be big financially. It’s also a carrot you can dangle for premium ticket buyers. I’d love to see the math on what we’d lose in guaranteed contract money vs. how much we’d gain from ticket sales, concessions, parking, etc.
