The writing has been on the wall. Take a look at the homeside of the football stadium, our core fanbase is older and unfortunately we've lost a number of dedicated fans over the years. We didn't do enough to grow the fanbase or even maintain the status quo. We beat Texas A&M in 1996 and instead of investing and growing, the program had its legs cut from underneath it. Stokely is gone two years later, Baldwin brought football to the dark ages and was gones, and then Bustle comes in and returns us to mediocrity for nine seasons. seasons. Over those years we missed out on creating a lot of new fans from students attending UL/USL. Those fans that we missed out could be the financial backbone of our athletic program today, but leadership didn't invest in creating a contender. Hud is hired in 2011 and we go to our first bowl game in 41 years. 2011 was an opportunity to begin a trend of getting things right and building year over year. Fourteen years later, we still haven't executed a comprehensive plan to grow the fanbase to meet out future goals and financial needs.
Attendance is dropping everywhere.
A lot on this site regularly complain about inadequate funding for our sports programs or about how bad attendance is... but I bet some don't even have season tickets to games.
CajunRed has a point and is right.
