Thread: Athletic QB Rankings

  1. Default Athletic QB Rankings

I see the Athletic has an article ranking all 136 projected starters. They have them ranked and also in Tiers 1 thru 7. They have Walker Howard as a Tier 7 QB ranked #113. Below is the description of Tier 7 and the blurb regarding Walker.

    Tier 7
A largely unproven group, with some decent G5 returning starters but also QBs who haven’t played much at all or have made multiple stops in their college careers in hopes of finally putting it all together.

    Walker Howard

    School: Louisiana
    Conference: Sun Belt
    Status: Transfer
Howard was an Elite 11 quarterback in the 2021 class but has seen minimal playing time while buried on the depth chart at LSU and Ole Miss. He’s attempted a combined 10 passes in three seasons and only two last year. In Lafayette, Howard should finally get to prove himself.

“He’s definitely got a whip and he can control it,” a G5 defensive coordinator said. “He can throw 60 yards off his back foot to the far hash.”

    2024 Stats
    Height: 6-0
    Weight: 190 lbs.
    Comp: 0.0%
    Yds/att: 0.0
    TD: 0
    INT: 0
    TIER 7
    SUN BELT
    TRANSFER

By comparison Braylon Braxton (USM) was ranked 42 (Tier 4), Colten Joseph (ODU) ranked 67 (Tier 6), Jaylen Raynor (ASU) ranked 78 (Tier 6), and Alanzo Barnett (JMU) ranked 79 (Tier6). All the remaining SBC QB's were Tier 7. The SBC QB's behind Howard were at Troy, Ga. St, and Marshall.

It is kinda hard to rank Walker with basically no film at the collegiate level. He will hopeful finish much higher than he starts the year.

Unbeknownst to them, they are going with the take that P4 schools are talent graveyards.

Walker did good to get out.

Sure as hell hope. If we finish with the 113th ranked QB...gonna be a long season.

But, while I'm not a betting man, if I had to go to Vegas right now and place a bit, on an higher or lower than 68 ranking (136 FBS teams), I'd bet the higher.

If we can have some decent, consistent pass blocking for him and a running game equal to last year, I think he'll do well for us.
