Because in that bogus law the legislature made at the request of LSUA&M in 1984, that reversed the original name change, it said the UL system is to have no flagship in it. Basically in a nutshell LSUA&M isn’t confident enough in their role to allow a flagship in the ULS.
IMHO, 'flagship' is a dirty word in this state.
There are two kinds of leadership: self-promotion, and service.
The first works in the short-term. The second is the long-term strategy.
And the governor is supporting us in numerous ways, usually quiet ones that we won't read about.
But he is not an emperor, and we are not his top priority. He is not going to sacrifice the rest of his agenda to push us forward.
We ARE the flagship of the UL system because we have earned it which is the way it should be. I am 110% against any efforts to "make" any school a designated "flag ship".
As far as the name goes that battle is over. We are accepted as Louisiana by the vast majority who matter. The antagonist will never stop. Every major University system still uses the location tag in their normal correspondence. Do a quick search on the University of Texas letterhead and correspondence requirements. It is very clear that "at Austin" is a requirement.
As far as I'm concerned this battle is over. Move on.
