UL AD and Coaches THRILLED With Tech Being Added to Sunbelt West

I've told this story here before. Years ago I was at a political luncheon, and sitting with some of the leaders from the Tunica tribe. I asked them what they thought of the possibility of ULM changing from the Indians, to the Tunica. They were enthusiastic.

I sent a letter to ULM, it was ignored.

It could have been a financial bonanza for them, and given them a strong identity.

I always thought a stronger identity would have been for them to keep the NLU name as North Louisiana University. That would have maintained some tradition for them. UL Monroe does nothing for them.

With all of ULM's financial woes, I wonder if LSU might consider bringing them into their system to capture ULM's Pharmacy School to go along with the LSU Shreveport (LSU-S) Med School and LSU's Dental School. LSU Monroe has a nice ring to it and sets us up as the only UL school in the UL System. Could dropping the "at Lafayette" follow?

…….other than not making it in the Metro years back…..possibly the worst decision for athletics in history! Sometimes I just wish I could be in these meetings to understand where they are convinced to vote in these matters! I think this has already hurt us in all sports recruiting!

If LA tech beats us in football this year, I think the seat of our AD and everyone involved in this decision should be hot! Seems like it is a perfect storm.

No Conference mate logic makes an ounce of sense.

Louisiana should have threatened to bolt if the rest of the Conference liked the idea.

Travel savings? None.

If travel savings were important, they would have been playing each other every year already. You don't need a conference to save money there.

Travel savings? None Louisiana will have to find an out of conference replacement opponent, sure to be far away and expensive.

Name branding logic? Zero.

Louisiana.edu has had a hard enough time branding itself as Louisiana, only to add a school whose name starts with Louisiana. LU.

Recruiting logic? None.

Even though Louisiana is the richest state for talent, it is a small state and now you have three schools from the same conference saying the same things.

I can't think of a single logical reason for adding Tech beyond the illogical reasons that have been refuted.

How did IT HAPPEN? Administration or coaches who don't understand or care about the culture of winning.

Almost like wanting to embrace living below mediocrity.

Many of us shared our rage but a couple talking heads and admin embraced the move.

Time to kick a few in the balls or they need to move over! It is a perfect storm and complacency just allows us to sink deeper.

Oh hell, just go ahead and let the Lake Charles trash in and make it a full circle (jerk) moment.

The older guys here know how hard it was getting away from the SLC. Tech, NLU and especially McNeese fought tooth and nail to hold UL back. Not to mention the name fight.

But hey, this is the equilivent of letting your deranged uncle in at grandma's funeral. Just go ahead and be happy with the dog killers if that's you thing.

NLU was a useful idiot and changed their name; at least UL got that out the deal. Other than that, ULM is the anchor on the USS "Together We Rise".

Can't figure who has the generational naked pictures, LSU should of plucked that pharmacy school in Monroe a long time ago.
