It took over 30 years to get where we are namewise. Memories are nice but we can't go backwards.
Now a USL throwback uni from time to time would be ok
But I want to see the Lafayette dropped ultimately. The fight will always continue
Ironically when USL no opponents ever tried to add the Lafayette
I'm old enough to remember both "directional Louisiana" in the ESPN Bottom 10. Never want to go back there again.
We have a governor who is a UL alum, we achieved Carnegie R1 (only UL and LSU are R1 public universities), we are nearing a half billion dollar endowment and we are approaching 20,000 enrollment (which no other school in the UL System comes close to), and we have taken a leadership position that no other school can match. Why are we not pursuing (1) dropping "at Lafayette" from our name, and (2) being named the Flagship of the UL System (the UL System needs its own Flagship, not LSU). No more excuses. If T-Joe is truly retiring in the coming year, what better legacy could he have than to get this done? He has transformed the university academically and done a remarkable transformation of the campus. Now, take it to the next step. We talk about changing the perception of the university. Do this and at the same time, transform athletics and get us out of the SBC with a move to the PAC. Don't do it and, as you said, the name fight again raises its ugly head with LA Tech joining the SBC.
Why do people keep saying we are near 20k in enrollment? We have been shrinking enrollment, prior to this year, for the past 6 or 7 years.
