Maggard taught Sport Management courses at Mizzou, as an adjunct professor, where he assisted campus leaders in establishing a Sport Management degree program. Maggard was also a member of the University of Missouri Graduate Faculty and served on doctoral examination and dissertation committees.

Prior to his stint at Missouri, Maggard had stops at Florida State University and Kansas State University, overseeing the academic support services for the Seminole and Wildcat football programs respectively.

Maggard received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in health and physical education, both from Kansas State University. He received a Ph.D. in Educational and Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri.

I understand it, but at the same time excitement over basically being in a conduit for degrees awarded from other instate universities and building supporting infrastructure isn’t a super feel good moment, IMO.

Loyalty never develops. Urban dictionary has a word describing this but won’t do there.
Left out that in 2026 - 2027, we will be proposing to add a BS in Dental Hygiene that should eliminate collaborating with LSU. Won't be approved before 2030 if the current approval process remains in place. Other programs that will be proposed for 2026-2027 that should enhance our health science program are BS degrees in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Radiologic Technology, and Nutrition. Hopefully those will eventually be approved.

Do we need more just to get in the elite club of R1, R2, etc?

As least if we add Dr’s or JD’s, most with be engaged financially.

Average 100 PhDs in minimum of 10 programs is our hurdle for the top level in the SREB.
Just as we face challenges with UG enrollment, attracting high quality grad students is increasingly becoming more difficult. Money and tougher visa rules are going to be challenging. IMHO

I agree. IMO,We should focus more on professional degrees, Nursing, Law, PA, etc. They are more likely to be highly employed in Acadiana and engaged with UL.
