Fair enough. 3/5 but let’s not act like he didn’t have the entire year to build a team and be prepared to compete. Also, in many ways, the Covid situation benefited schools like ours with regard to keeping older players on rosters.

And thank God it was so few games because that group in 2020 wouldn't have come close to winning 25 games. What no one is talking about is the state of the program when Deggs took over. No one wants to go there. Why ? It was horrible. So the man comes in and gets to a regional his second "full year" then follows that with two consecutive regionals and here we are. We had a bad year. It happens. We're a mid-major in the NIL era. That won't change any time soon. unfortunately.

He is 100% not currently in a hot seat.
Until you know the facts about the "swirling rumors" I'd sit tight. Believe me, most that left needed to go. In fact the majority needed to go. I'll leave you with that.

People fail to talk about the total debacle that building Russo Park became under the incompetence of our previous AD. To the point where Tony was literally the point man on menial decisions in construction. He was being torn 18 different ways in at the time and some of his assistants at the time milked it. We fell on hard times because of the “efforts” of many.

Look, maybe you’re right and we had a bad year. Maybe we followed that up with an unusually dysfunctional off season. Maybe it’s a blip on the radar.

    I hope you’re right.

I think this is exactly right. The issue is, who built that team? Who missed on talent and personalities that badly? By the way, not the first time we’ve had to completely clean house in 5 years.

The problem is this (dare I say) cult like following that Deggs has from a small group of former players. And yes, some of our fans fall into that category too.

That group refuses to acknowledge his short comings and the rest of the fan base can’t stand it. The whole story is, Deggs has been in a regional 3/6 (full) years in his stint as Cajun skipper. Yes, he made 3 in a row. Huge accomplishment. But if we’re being honest, only one of those teams had a real chance to advance out of the regional. Again, not saying he can’t coach, but if the stated goal is Omaha, we’ve not come close yet heading into year 7. He also made that run with a generational talent, probably a top 5 ever Cajun in DeBarge.

He’s also done plenty behind the scenes that raise eye brows. From his “all or nothing” team building strategy to playing favorites based on life style choices to his hiring practices; people have taken notice. And the voices that I’ve seen saying these things are not malcontents on a message board or social media app.

I love Cajun baseball and I want to win. I want to win big. I want to take my kids to Omaha to experience the incredible feeling of making a run like we did in 2000. So yea, when it’s obvious things are headed in directions that don’t lead to the final 8, I’m going to be skeptical. That’s not “wanting to fail.” That’s not falling in love with the coach and knowing exactly what the mission is here.
This can also be said about Robe.

If Deggs style of baseball mirrored that of Tony I don’t think you’d hear quite the same gripes. But it’s not, in fact it’s not even close to the same style of play.

So it is way easier to pick apart his failures because it’s not the way we have done it for the entirety of some fans fan hood.

It’s the same type of deal regarding Robe building the program. Which is a huge false narrative. Boulanger won at a tremendous clip. That man never gets credit.

But Deggs is the guy who is following arguably the most influential coach this program has had since Shipley. That’s a hard act to follow.

IMHO we win 40 games next year and are back in a regional. But what do I know.

I’m sitting tight, fully aware I’m not an insider. But it’s not my job to manage the outsider perception. I’m hopeful for a turnaround season.

I'm quite confident that you'll get your wish.

I loved Rob and have met no greater man, but there were concerns. His Family wanted and supported the hire of Deggs. It's hard for me to dump a man after a season like this past one.

He stated in hindsight he made a decision to go with mostly HS athletes and few transfers. Hopefully he learned his lesson and does a better job of roster management. I've seen a number of coaches here from MBB, WBB and other sports make decisions on athletes that they probably regretted and just didn't say anything publicly. The question remains; can Coach Deggs correct the course of his program and turn the corner? It's his job and as a Cajun fan, I hope he succeeds.
