Lafayette's first City-Parish President has died at his Broussard home. Walter Comeaux served as City-Parish president from 1996 to 2004.
His public service career spans three decades including the Broussard City Council and the Lafayette Parish Police Jury.

Some of his accomplishments include the Clifton Chenier Center, capital improvements to Camellia Boulevard and the Eraste Landry Road extension. Other capital improvement projects under his watch included North Louisiana Avenue and a new police station.

According to Glen Weber, former Chief Administrator Officer, "Walter built more within this community in terms of roads, museums, and law enforcement provisions than in my opinion had all the mayors together before him."

Comeaux was 72-years old. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard. David Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
