This is a disaster. That is all.

If this was a decision made based on the staff’s performance this past season, why wait until now to make a move? I call BS. Embarrassing for the program. I was in the camp of Deggs has earned his chance to turn this around. Put up or shut up time next season. This is starting to feel like Hud with DCs. When does the man in the mirror become the problem?

    Sounds like it already is.

Making a change at pitching coach was discussed in the threads towards the end of the season, and the cold hard facts (stats) were shown. That was a move that probably needed to be made. And it was.

Gunner going to S. Miss is completely out of anyone related to UL’s control.
Gunner stopped going to the mound about 1/3 through the season. Looks like he wasn't the pitching coach most of the season. There is no way to spin this as positive for the program right now.

Another season like the last will turn up the heat on Deggs.

Deggs may be hard to work for but maybe , just maybe gunner wasn’t a very good pitching coach. Two things can be true at the same time. I think gunner will benefit big time learning from USM coach.

I hope both land on their feet. We'll see.

He very well might not be. I certainly had my doubts after the way this season’s staff panned out. Waiting until late June to move on from a coach and that coach immediately then landing a gig with a Top 25 program that just hosted a Regional doesn’t lend much credence to the hypothesis that he wasn’t a very good coach who were just as anxious to be rid of as he was to move on.

I hope as well. Ultimately Deggs is the head of the program, and it falls on him to correct the direction of the program. BTW, another former pitcher that played here has a different take on the scenario, so there are always two sides of the story. Today, it is about Wins and Losses, lots gets loss in-between.

No brother! No way I'm dumping on either man at this point. Sometimes personalities conflict, it happens. IMO, it's still Deggs that needs to correct the direction of the program. If it doesn't happen, we will have plenty to discuss next spring.
