If that was the case, you would think it would have happened much sooner. Like closer to the end of the season at the end of May - which would have been best for both parties. Not a month later when many slots and candidates are committed for next year already.

All the rumors are that Gunner was safe as long as Morgan and a couple other pitchers were staying with him.

The fact that Gunner is gone might be a clue to those players' intentions

    Today is the deadline, right?

Imagine your job depending on your ability to retain a kid in the wild west era of athletics. This is why it's hard for me to even be critical of coaches or programs in this era. Was he supposed to become a clingy girlfriend and try to sneak glances at their phone in order to make sure the big boys (or even conference mates) aren't tampering?

Fans can spin zone it any sort of way they want talking about their production and performance, but losing a coach and player, and potentially more, to THAT school absolutely f’ing sucks.

He turned in his resignation. His goal has always been to coach in the majors and so his career ambitions will take him to better places. I'm not sure his relationship with Deggs moved the timeline forward, but I wish him the best of luck in his career ambition's.

    Gunner is a Cajun Legend!

Cajun legend indeed. He will reach his goal; that's an easy bet.

Was pitching coach in 2024 and 2025

In 2024, Cajuns led league in ERA both overall (4.48) and in SBC games (4.27)

The conference-only ERA (4.40) this year was third best behind Coastal (CWS finalist) and Southern Miss (regional host).

While I agree pitching wasnt great this year...far from "guys pitching staffs stunk".

Who did we develop as pitchers Mcgehee got worse. All the pitchers they brought in flopped either lack of coaching or recruiting. Martinez left and flourishes. The problem is either can’t recruit pitchers or develop them that’s a fault either way. Mid week games disaster walk the park. No sugar coating it
