Thread: Gunner Resigned

  1. Default Re: Gunner Resigned

They say we cant move up because we are a small market, but how many big markets have such discussions about college assistant coaches....seems as if college wouldnt get the attention the athletes (and in some cases coaches) seem to be looking for in big markets

    OK.
You're assuming the results weren't affected by circumstances out of Gunners control. Control being the operative word. Something Deggs has a tough time letting go of.

I don’t have any doubt that Deggs probably neutered Gunner at some point during the season.

But it’s his program and on him to win games. If there’s an issue on the team, he’s gonna do what he has to do to fix the issue.

And that’s the case at every program in the country. I think a lot of people would be surprised at how big of a-holes the vast majority of college baseball coaches are. Robe was a HUGE exception, and that’s all many people here know.

As someone said earlier in the thread, if Gunner’s name was John Smith and he played ball at Random U, the sentiment would probably be a whole lot different about this. And I get that. Gunner is a Cajuns legend. But it didn’t work out with him as the pitching coach.

Gunner taking a job at a conference rival is out of UL’s control, and a decision HE made.

If Deggs fails to make a regional in 2026 do you think he will be on the hot seat?

I would lean towards yes, but would have regardless of any pitching coach situations

Depends on how the season goes I guess. But I doubt it.

In my opinion, you’re asking for big trouble running coaches off for 2 disappointing seasons that follow 3 good ones.

And who are you hiring to take his place?

LOL. Deggs DID NOT “run off” BJ Ryan. That’s a fact. Amazing how people make up their own BS.

But it isn't asking for big trouble to run off legends in your program after one bad season which was preceded by a good one? And again, if it didn't work out for Leger as pitching coach, why was this move made in late June and not after the conclusion of the season?
