Thread: Texas State Leaves Sun Belt for PAC-12

  1. Default Re: Texas State Leaves Sun Belt for PAC-12

Guys the PAC does not want us! Nothing anybody has shown has shown the PAC showing any interest at all, unlike them going after Tx St. Unlike Tx St we do not have a desirable location meaning Austin/San Antonio area, the population is exploding there, our stadiums are half empty, our Admn. is not pushing athletics like Tx St., and frankly our budget is probably in one of the worst situations athletically here in Louisiana not to mention trying to move to another conference. We talk about brand, we need to build our brand locally and drive up support financially and attendance wise before we start thinking about the PAC pipe dream. Just my opinion and wrong or right I am trying to be a realist.

No one ever got rich by thinking the status quo was the only realistic goal.

Texas State was proactive and reached out first.

They did not sit on their hands waiting for someone to ask them to dance.

Don't know if you realize it, but adding T-State will make it the PAC 3.

According to the available information, the Pac-12 reached out to Texas State first regarding conference membership.
    From Google….

Funny the PAC didn’t go after UNT. Wish them well, but long term, it’s going to be a retrospective journey.

Bottom line, OSU and WSU tried to incorporate the P4 leftovers and various G6 programs in various roles and failed. Texas State was one of their last resorts.

Hopefully we can keep Texas State on the schedule for a few years to get some easy W’s over the PAC-12.

The only reason we're even talking about the PAC is because OSU and WSU couldn't get an invite to a better payday. The PAC is now the MWC 2.0 and may end up being the WAC 2.0 down the road with further realignment.

Texas State was drumming it up long before any invite was forthcoming.

Now is the PAK saving face by saying its what they wanted all along?

Seems like it but I doubt it.

Congrats to TX St. Setting a good example of making a goal, laying out a plan of action, executing the plan, then achieving said goal. TX St. didn't let their lack of D-1 football success nor brief D-1 football history hold themselves back from being considered by a higher level of competition conference. They tried, didn't make excuses nor blame their small fan base dwarfed by two SEC giants- the Aggies and Longhorns. With a little luck (due to the PAC circumstances) and pluck TX St. is leapfrogging past a Louisiana Ragin Cajun program which has competed at the D-1 level since (checks wikipedia notes) 1973.

More than ever college athletics is market driven and the market is always moving. This is a classic example of UL leadership being commoditized again by its competitors even a friendly competitor like TX St that we beat every year in football. We think we're at least treading water, but we're actually taking on water by not trying to bust down the door into a more highly competitive conference over and over again. Why is it so many schools have passed us by into more competitive conferences in 52 years of D-1. From the outside looking in, on the business side of things we're playing not to lose and that's why football and basketball fan attendance has slacked off.
