As I understand the situation today, Neither school has the votes, but staying at 13 brings big scheduling problems from what I hear from the higher ups.

We have no leverage at all to lure any AAC schools.

If we are going to add anyone right now, it should be someone who is an obvious upgrade for the league or we bring in a project.

The only obvious upgrade available is Liberty.

The only projects worth looking at are Missouri State, Delaware and Kennesaw State.

Adding Liberty or Delaware would force us to split the Georgia schools.

Whereas Missouri State or Kennesaw State could easily be placed in the West.

Do you see a 14th member from this group?

    Look here.....

UL should always align with schools in Houston, NOLA, and DFW.

Outside of Acadiana, most of the 50 and under alumni base are located in those areas.

We should always look to have conference peers in the geographic footprint of our alumni.

Losing access to Texas will hurt us in the long run. Lots of 2nd and 3rd generation recruits and donors are in the geographic footprint of Texas.

I hope UL finds it's way to a conference with Tulane or LA Tech, Rice and UNT.

The east side of the SBC does nothing for us outside of a championship game.

I have always proposed that our forever home should be in a Conference or Conference Division centered around Texas. Unfortunately, our administration avoids them like the plague.

With a vacancy in the West, among those three, only Mo State makes any sense. Kennesaw St. is just outside Atlanta and Delaware is in, well, Delaware. That being said, none of them bring much to the conference.

If SBC goes to 16 members invite WKY, Mid Tenn and Liberty. On paper, if the media money is there, looks like strongest choices, two for west division/central time zone, one for the east side. Not necessarily endorsing these next two but as fall back plan Sam Houston St. geography is good, only about 45 minutes north of The Woodlands. Recent move up, only been in CUSA past two years. Missouri St. very recent move up, just joined CUSA yesterday, same latitude up yonder as WKY. Either of those two compliment SBC long term better than latech/3rd Louisiana based member. Commissioner Gill's team is probably crunching the numbers on all scenarios. WKY, Mid Tenn, and Liberty add a little more heft to the SBC perception. The others not as much.

Tell me again how much better off we are in the SBC.... I have said it before and I will continue saying it; the worst decision ever made by UL is not pushing hard to get in this conference. The difference in basketball revenue [ticket sales plus NCAA Tournament Units] would more than offset any increase in travel costs.
Stumbled upon this article stating pretty much what you are saying about the basketball portion. Also, another interesting tidbit from the article. This may be just the author's opinion, but supports the point you are making about us not pushing to get into the conference being an avoidable mistake. Saw another article a day or so purporting that Texas State has basically been reaching out to the PAC (and likely multiple other P5 leagues) for close to a decade.

    https://www.spokesman.com/stories/20...as-reached-th/

"Yes, the Bobcats from San Marcos had one main selling point. They have FBS football, have been better than OK at it recently and were available – eager even – for poaching. Everything else, including how much it would cost, the Texas location and success in all other sports, was secondary."

Ridiculed by some online or not, the pub Texas State has gotten out of all this can't be measured. And they didn't even need to do anything noteworthy athletically to get it.

Wish ULM would just drop down or move to CUSA and let the SBC stay at 12. Let all the bottom dwellers be in a conference with Liberty.

The more we talk about adds, the less I find myself wanting to add anyone.

I personally like Sam Houston if we just replace tx st. They’ll be solid in all sports sooner than later.
    But
If we go to 16. I’d actually add Liberty in the east and New Mexico State and utep in the west.

Exactly! The SBC should have a minimum standard (football attendance/revenue) that would usher a removal of ULM.

No more free lunch money for ULM.
