I'm not spending another dime at this point in my life, nor am I demanding someone else invest and pay for something I'm not willing to do today. The reality is we were some 20 years behind everyone else in our conference in facilities upgrades and improvements outside on ULM. In the twenty plus years we have been trying to play make up most of those same programs have either re-invested more or have left the conference.
I'm a realist and we still have a long way to go in facilities; half a new stadium and waiting on a new club house for baseball and in need of new Tennis facilities. That is where the focus has been in fundraising and NIL has been secondary. Unfortunately, I can demand they focus on other aspects in need but I'm not going to _____ about something I'm unwilling to write checks for at this point.
People have selective memories when it comes to the new members of the PAC 8 alignment. We played a number of these programs in the Big West; UNLV, Frenso St and others and they kicked us out of the damn Big West Conference. Were we on the call list for the new Pac 8? No! And for those screaming that we should have called them, why? They don't want UL now either. Please don't show me articles by people that are on the dime and have become contortionists in exclaiming that the PAC 8 is some prestigious conference. The Fact remains they couldn't get Tulane, Memphis, Rice or any current member of the AAC to jump ship and fly every sport to the West Coast on a promissory note. If anyone wants to call me an apologist for Dr. Maggard go right ahead. I've seen the other guy before him up close and there is no comparison. Given the budget restraint's he was given including no more money from the state as per Dr. Savoie, it's a miracle we are where we are today. He's by no means perfect, but he is galaxies beyond what this program has had since the 80's.
If there is one legitimate gripe about them it is the lack of communication to their RCAF investors. And since I'm not in the Top 50 on that list, I seldom get any updated information. College sports have become a business and it's no longer personal for me. I have very little passion for giving athletes money while begging them to stay enrolled in college for an education. while my children worked while attending college.
