I don't like Tech, but this is correct and the best business model moving forward. Athletics is a business and taking on water will no longer be allowed by that UL-System Board and the State. No longer will the program will be allowed to cover holes in the athletic budget by borrowing from the foundation. Trying to operate without the money allowed from the state was not the smartest move by Dr. Savoy, but it's time to take what is allowed since additional student fees will not happen here.
The SBC can leverage itself now with the addition of Tech for what will almost be certain to happen to the AAC first and allowing UL, ASU, ULM and Southern Miss to reduce travel cost on the Western side of the Conference is smart.
This is where we are at this time and if we want to prepare for anything happening beyond the PAC 8, we had better make financial decisions that have us better prepared. In the meantime, I will hold my nose and deal with Tech in the same manner we have had to deal with ULM.
This is becoming more distasteful by the day.
I have a sinking feeling that Tech might be necessary to keep the SBC afloat, but it would guarantee that Louisiana keeps drifting.
NO TECH. F'N PERIOD.
If we want Louisiana to make a real case for joining a better conference, we’ve got to take ownership of it on every front. It starts with winning—consistently, and when it counts. Championships speak volumes, and we need to stack them.
But it doesn’t stop there. We have to pack the stands, build game-day energy, and create a fan experience that shows we belong on a bigger stage. Attendance matters—every person, every game. That’s how we build a reputation and draw the spotlight.
Branding is huge. We need to make ‘Louisiana’ a name that resonates across the country. That means media presence, community support, strong visuals, and a unified voice. The more recognition we get, the harder we are to ignore.
Money talks. We need to generate revenue—through ticket sales, donations, partnerships, merchandising, media rights—every stream we can tap. Because conferences don’t just want winners, they want programs that move the needle financially.
And the administration? They’ve got to see realignment as a mission, not just a possibility. That means networking, lobbying, investing in facilities, and putting us in every conversation that matters. We’ve got to be ready when the door opens—and prove we belong when it does.
Can tech help them?
