I’m not saying it’s a massive difference, but a Southern Miss vs. Tech or ULM vs Tech or Arkansas State vs Tech game would likely draw more interest than one against Troy or Texas State.

There’s a bit more regional familiarity and name recognition with Tech, and that tends to matter especially to casual fans who aren’t deep into conference details. No matter who Sunbelt added...it wouldnt move the needle tremendously with the casual fan. Tech was the best bet in that regard. West Florida was a close second.

So if all options weren't all that great then wouldn't you add a team that wouldn't upset the eastern schools and possibly cause them to break off later. Like does it matter if it only upsets Monroe. Not like they can leave for a better conference. At the very least don't add anyone. All time blunder just to make a few bus league fans happy

ULM is all in on Tech! Why? They know it peaks curiosity and knows that it will grow fan support among the Monroevians and the Rustonians when they play. Eventually leading to more fans showing up!
