They are not going for the matchup.

Those fans would show up to watch grass grow because its the cool thing to do.

For them (going way back) its everything else having to do with game day atmosphere.

Moving to the ACC saved Smu. Before that they had crowds that rivaled ours. I don’t think they are a priority at all for the Dallas area but they are certainly moving back in the right direction.

At some.places that are always sold out for conference games, the smaller non conf games still have chance to get big crowds because it gives chance to those who cant go to other games a chance, might be their only game for a year or two, and/or season ticket holders might give/sell those games to others as well
