Do you really think that Murray state poached one of rustons players because they offered more money? You do understand that there are still instances where a kid chooses to transfer to a different school for a better situation and not because some bigwig threw some cash at them, right?
Exactly.
That “kid” is 23 years old. Spent 2 years at JUCO, then one at La Tech (he hit .226 with 2 HRs in 53 ABs there in 2023). And he’s now in his 2nd year at Murray State.
And with the stupid rules (Covid season and JUCO not counting) he’s probably eligible to play again next season.
Looking into that, Murray State has a bunch of older players (and transfers).
Of the 8 position player regulars, they have one freshman (the SS). Everyone else is in at least their 3rd year in college baseball, and 3 of those guys in their 5th or 6th year. They have one JUCO transfer, 2 that signed there out of high school (a RS sophomore and a RS senior), and transfers from Virginia Tech, Cal State-Fullerton, Louisville, and La Tech
Among the top 6 pitchers (in innings pitched, all with 40+ innings): theres one high school signee that’s a sophomore (he has the fewest innings of the 6), a Troy transfer, 3 JUCO kids and a transfer from St. Francis (Indiana)
Sounds like Coastal’s roster the year they won it all.
Honestly, that might be the secret these days for a small conference program to make a run. Need a bunch of older guys with a ton of college game experience who are just going to play their asses off because they’re likely not going to the big leagues.
Murray State added grandstand seating (800) and lights to their baseball field in 2014.....
