Maybe it seems like a big loss compared to this team currently but we have had countless players in the last 5 years that have done more than. He’s a good player but to act like this is a huge loss is absurd. Yes if everyone did that we would be good. But if your highest projected player does it you are not good
What difference does it make what he was “projected” to do? He did what he did, and improved all 3 seasons. Guys that hit .300 with at least 8 HRs don’t grow on trees…and the ones that do it and come back the next season is RARE.

Here’s a list of every Cajun who’s met those 2 numbers in a season since 2013 (as far back as the stats go on the team website):

    2025
    Higgs
    Stelly

    2024
    Debarge
    Lafleur

    2023
    Roccaforte
    Brock

    2022
    Roccaforte
    Kimple

    2021
    (None)

    2020 (Covid year)

    2019
    Lott
    Cantrelle

    2018
    (None)

    2017
    Sensley

    2016
    (None)

    2015
    Clement
    Trosclair

    2014
    Adams
    Conrad
    Harrison

    2013
    Kjerstad
    Adams
    Harrison

Losing a guy that did that is a big loss, whether you want to believe it or not.

My point wasn’t that he isn’t a good player. My point was that a DH that hits exactly .300 with single digit homeruns isn’t as irreplaceable as everyone is saying. Heath hood hit .350 with just a couple less bombs. Heath hood was just another guy here. My point being we can find that level of contribution in the portal. It works both ways

Heath Hood is one the best players to play here in the last decade.

Please provide the long list of transfers (from either 4 year schools or JUCOs) that have shown up at UL and had that kind of production in their first season.

In year one is a very fair point. But it’s his 3rd year and he never really reached that ceiling everyone always talked about. Could be a victim of the hype. I just don’t see a world where we can’t find a .300/8/33rbi second place team leading hitter anywhere

The only seasons we have had 3 of those guys have been the best two offensive seasons in the last quarter century.

The chances of finding someone to replace what Stelly was is minuscule. And for it to be what Stelly would likely be next season (he’s gotten better each year) is a pipe dream.

I’m not sure where all these guys (that you seem to think we can just hand pick a couple from) are.

Hint: they’re going to SEC, ACC, and Big 12 schools

A guy like pastore played the same position and drove in more runs with a better BA. The home run number is high and might be hard to replace but the production from a runs stand point isn’t crazy to replicate. You have to hit on some but we have before. Obviously not this year but it’s happened

I hope you’re right. But I’ll stand by what I said that losing Stelly is a big loss.

Imagine they find a couple like you mentioned. Having those guys WITH Stelly is much better than those guys without him.

I’m not saying that we would be better off without him. I’m just saying if he’s the only guy out of the guys you would like to keep to go then you aren’t in the absolute worst position. Theres been some guys in the past you absolutely can’t afford to lose, l don’t think he’s one of them, but would be nice to have.

He did not hit .270 for most of the season. Last time his average was that low was March. Been one of our only consistent hitters for the last couple months.

I won't miss his base running.
