Did starting Hess in the first game of the tournament contribute to giving up 16 runs in the fourth game or would it have been worse?
17 runs are the most surrendered by the Cajuns since May 19, 2012 to ULM at home, our last game that season. Final score was 17-0. 13 years since we gave up 17. The following four seasons we won 40 plus games and played in four reginals and one super. Maybe history rhymes.
The Cajuns lost 12 games this year when they scored 5+ runs.
And only won 4 when they scored less than 5.
They were 22-11 when the pitchers allowed less than 7 runs.
But, they gave up 7+ in 25 of the 58 games. And 10+ in 11 of those 25 games.
The staff gave up 6.3 runs per game this season, up from 4.98 last year. ERA this year was 5.53, up from 4.48 last season. The team ERA has risen every year since 2021
Herrmann, Morgan, Holzhammer, and McGehee were all significantly worse statistically this season than last.
I mentioned it last night, I’d be surprised if we don’t see a new pitching coach next season. Gunner is a legend here, but those numbers are hard to ignore.
So does this mean we are going to be a 4-seed??
