Thread: Pete Rose and ‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson reinstated by MLB

  1. UL Baseball Pete Rose and ‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson reinstated by MLB

Major League Baseball on Tuesday removed Pete Rose and “Shoeless” Joe Jackson – two of the sport’s most famous players who were previously kicked out of baseball for gambling on the game – from the league’s permanently ineligible list.

The historic decision by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred allows Rose to be considered for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, an honor that had been ruled out as part of the settlement he reached with Major League Baseball. Rose died in September, and Manfred ruled that his lifetime ban ended with his death.

I mean that the case against Pete is pretty airtight. The circumstances surrounding Shoeless Joe are less than convincing. The evidence on other Black Sox is pretty damning.

The minute David Ortiz was inducted into the Hall of Fame, the voters and hall lost all credibility. Big Papi was a steroid user, from the steroid era and was voted in because he was a Red Sox icon.

Pete Rose, Joe Jackson, Barry Bonds (GOAT), Roger Clemens and a few others should all be voted in. In fact they should be in the same inductee class.

During the 1917 World Series, Jackson hit .307 as the White Sox defeated the New York Giants. Jackson missed most of the 1918 season while working in a shipyard because of World War I. In 1919, he returned to post a strong .351 average during the regular season and .375 in the World Series.

The jury deliberated less than three hours. When the Chief Clerk read the jury's first verdict, finding Claude Williams not guilty, a huge roar went up in the courtroom. As the string of not guilty verdicts continued, the cheers increased. Soon hats and confetti were flying in the air and players and spectators pounding the backs of jurors in approval. Several jurors lifted players to their shoulders and paraded them around the courtroom.

Joe Jackson told reporters, "The jury could not have returned a fairer verdict, but I don't want to go back to organized baseball--I'm through with it."

It is undistubale that bonds had 5 tools, maybe even 6 or more..... how many tools did Rose have? When he was 12 years old people already knew bonds would be a big leaguer.

We were just talking about mantle and small ball, Dont forget bonds also led all eternity in walks, how does steroids give you a keen eye for the strike zone

It is pretty much indisputable that Rose WAS a tool. Dude was cocky, arrogant and abrasive. BUT the SOB could play. Happiest day of my baseball viewing life was when Pete came into Houston needing 1 hit to break Ty Cobb's career hit record and struck out 4 times in 4 plate appearances. Well, Nolan did throw him 12 heaters at 103-104. Nasty fastballs with movement. I'm not sure even Ted Williams could have hit those pitches.
